I am catching up to these episodes slowly but surely.
The World’s GREATEST Singing Competition returns with the original blend of coaches: Adam Levine, CeeLo Green, Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera. And everyone wants to take Blake Shelton down in the 5th season of The Voice. So far Xtina has 2, CeeLo has 2, Blake Shelton has 1, and Adam Levine leads with 3 members. We start off with a pow wow of coaches, discussing how its great to be back together again and Christina jokingly asks if its now called The Blake Shelton Show.
Playing poker in Edinburgh is great fun. Like Blackpool, a lot of the players don’t really play anywhere else, so there’s a real local flavour to this leg, but not in an unwelcoming way – far from it in fact, they love to see big tournaments coming to their local casino, and the GUKPT is the biggest in Edinburgh, and all of Scotland, in 2017.
The first victim of the night is 16 year old Jacquie Lee out of Colts Neck, NJ. She doesnt come from a musical family but comes from a “large,loud” family. She performs at children’s hospitals and seems to have such a large heart for such a young and small person. For her blind audition she sings Back To Black. I fucking LOVE this song and she has a great voice. Christina and Blake both push their buttons in the last second. I was going to throw my remote at the tv if they didnt turn around. CeeLo really wants her boots, Blake really wants her… Adam says best quote “you put your dimples away! you cute charming country son of a bitch!” And CeeLo interrupts with “did you get your boots from Aldo?” The coaches are really hating on Blake tonight. haha. He has a target on his back. Who does she end up with? Well, Cee Lo has to take a picture of her boots first. She ends up on TEAM XTINA and Christina has another great artist!
The next guy up is 27 year old Barry Black from Aua, American Samoa. I already want this guy to get on someone’s team as a fellow polynesian brother. I feel like we are connected. I am also mixed with black. His last name is Black. He better be good! He plays in Vegas with a band, it sounds like his parents arent that supportive, but I hope they see how cool life as an artist can be. For his blind audition he sings What You Won’t Do For Love and the guy starts off using his mouth to emulate a trumpet. Dope. After singing the first notes, Adam slams down on his button. Blake follows suit. After he finishes, everyone wonders where his horn is. Blake quote: IM DESPERATE FOR THIS MAN. But who does Barry go with? Adam looks nervous as he has to wait, and Blake does the infamous point at me. In the end, Barry goes with TEAM ADAM!! Fake out!!!
Next up is 19 year old Mike Unser. For his blind audition he sings Dirty Little Secret, and this guy is definitely a rocker. Unfortunately no one turns around for him. And first thing Mike says is “nice beard Adam.” They all joke about the least awkward ice breaker. Adam says there was nothing wrong about his performance, CeeLo compared him to Blink182 and Christina said he should really come back.
Destiny Quinn is 20 years old from Surprise, Az. I am sure there are a lot of jokes that can be made from that one sentence. She performs at a biker bar regularly acoustic and states she knows they arent always interested in what she sings so she has to pull from many genres. She won a contest years ago, played with Alice Cooper, and he even left a message for her. That is dope. For her blind she sings Cowboy Take Me Away and I think I really like her voice. She doesnt have the typical country voice. Christina is the first to turn around. CeeLo surpisingly turns around and is the last judge to before she finishes. As the bidding war begins, Christina lets her know immediately she wants her on her team. CeeLo says he is basking in her beauty. Who does she go with? TEAM XTINA!
22 year old Cole Vosbury from Shreveport looks like he should be on Duck Dynasty. He has the long hair and beard to boot. His grandma looks like she likes to party and enjoy an occasional beverage during happy hour. I like her. He seems nervous about his blind audition because his song has never been done before. He sings Movin On Up from The Jeffersons. LOL. But he has a great voice. I really wonder what made him pick this song. CeeLo presses his button and he has his poker face on, like he doesnt want anyone else to see how much likes this guy. CeeLo says he is a great balance of country and soul and got the people off their feet. A win for TEAM CEELO! Again I love his grandmother.
19 year old Holly Henry from Minnesota is next up to the chopping block! Looking at her she is young, blonde and cute. Perfect for TEAM BLAKE. 😉 The reason she tried out is because her parents encouraged her, which is great because having your family support you is important. For her blind audition she sings The Scientist and BLAKE of course turns around immediately. Soon Adam and CeeLo slam their buttons. Blake is smiling throughout her whole performance like she already is a member of his team, but soon sees Christina about to push her button and says “no, no, no, no.” 4 chair turn for Holly Henry. As she talks she kind of reminds me of Anna Faris from The House Bunny (LOL). She has a breathy way of speaking. Who does she end up picking? TEAM BLAKE! (first member of the night)
Next up is Sammy C, 16 years old and out of California. He has a dope pair of red glasses (TEAM CEELO perhaps?) and also has alopecia, as does Toni Warne from The Voice UK (Team Jessie J). Will he wow the judges as she did for her performance? For his blind audition he performs Where Is The Love, starting off rapping and then moving into singing. Blake said “this guys good” and looked like he wanted to push his button but I could tell that Sammy C was nervous and may not have performed the song like he would’ve wanted to. Unfortunately he didnt get a chair to turn around. CeeLo commented he had such a great energy and of course asked his what inspires him, which lead for them to explain he had alopecia. Great effort from a really cool kid. Big online gambling companies.
Sammy C was followed by a montage of artists who didnt make it and gives us a chance to see them offer why someone didnt make it.
Johnny Gray Packers
Austin Jenckes is the next artist to grace the stage. A 25 year old out of Duvall, Washington who works as a scooter tour guide. That is crazy to me but cool. Who’d’ve thunk. He shared a very personal story about his father’s suicide when Austin was 16 years old. I bet this guy is a songwriter as well. Win river casino rv park. It would be pretty hard to experience something so tragic and not be. For his blind audition he sings Simple Man. He gives a very solid performance. When he hits a high note, CeeLo and Blake Shelton press their buttons at the same time. Blake said he felt it was so impressive and that Austin looked like the guy he hoped he would look like. He shares a few stories but I really want to know who he chooses in the end. And its TEAM BLAKE! dunzo. And its another win for Blake.
EG Daly is the next artist and turns out to be a voice over actor and OMG I THINK SHE IS THE VOICE OF TOMMY PICKLES!!!!!!!! AND SHE WAS!!! CRAZY!!!!!!!!! Holy shit. Amazing. What does she sing for her blind audition? Breathe. Great choice. She kind of reminds of a raspy Dolly Parton. I couldnt help but smile throughout her performance. She is one of my favorites. Hands down. Blake and CeeLo turned around at the same time. Afterwards they both start fighting over her and they freak out over finding out she was on PeeWee’s Big Adventure and Rugrats. In the end she goes with TEAM BLAKE! Blake is getting the little bittie blonde girls. Blake is also starting to notice the coaches are ganging up against him.
Next up is Jonny Gray, a 29 year old out of Austin, Tx (where I happen to live!). I think its dope he was in the Air Force where you have to have a very clean cut look, but now he is long haired rocker. He states hands down the coach he would want to work with is Adam Levine. Will Adam turn his chair? For the blind he sings All These Things I’ve Done and from his first notes Adam utters “damn.” CeeLo pushes his button first, followed by Adam. CeeLo says he wants to fight with him, Adam said his look surprised him because he thought he was going to be emo-ed out, and Blake made a joke. (>-<) In the end Jonny picks CeeLo Green. I guess because he turned around first? Nope. Because he made a Pearl Jam reference.

Next up is the exotic and lovely Tessane Chin from Jamaica. She is one of the more established artists but it goes to show you the many MANY artists in the world who all strive for success. I know that she is going to wow the judges. For her audition she sings Try by Pink. And this woman does not disappoint. Her voice is a weapon and she is taking folks down. Christina, CeeLo and Adam Levine all turn around quickly soon followed by Blake. After she is done and they ask her name Adam states it “This is going to be a dirty fight!” Well hell. Why are we so fascinated with accents? Her accent is lovely. Everyone gives their pitch: Adam loves Reggae, CeeLo flirts, Christina wants to bond, Blake wants to show her country… Who does she end up with? TEAM ADAM! Such a BIIIIIIIIIIIIIG Win!!! Awesome. There is NO WAY she is going to get knocked out in the Battle Rounds.
